Jeannie Rutenburg has been a Lecturer in History at the University of Maryland for 17 years. She teaches courses on Medieval and Renaissance European History in the History Department and in the Honors Humanities and University Honors Programs. She received a Golden Key Honor Society Award for excellence in teaching. She has been an instructor for a UMD study abroad course in Italy, and she was a faculty lecturer on UMD Alumni College Tours Abroad in Tuscany and Normandy. After graduating from Harvard University she lived and studied in Florence, and then went on to graduate work at The University of California at Berkeley. Her main areas of specialization are Late Antiquity and Medieval and Renaissance religious and cultural history. Her most recent publication is a review article co-authored with Arthur Eckstein on The Return of the Fall of Rome, International History Review Vol. 29 (2007).
